Alcoa to shutter smelters as it prepares to separate

Alcoa Inc. is closing three aluminum smelters and cutting production at an alumina refinery in the United States, moves that will eliminate 1,500 jobs, as the company prepares to separate its struggling raw material business from its fast-growing parts manufacturing units.
